Frequently Asked Questions

When do you offer classes?

We offer group artistic swimming classes during after-school, evening, and weekend hours.

Do you operate year round?

That is the goal!

The Northern Novas club in Whitehorse re-launched in early 2025, with the goal of offering ongoing classes in all seasons. We would like to ensure that the kids who are already passionate about the sport have the support and consistency to continue to grow, and that artistic swimming continues to be available for future generations of Yukon swimmers .

Currently, the next session is scheduled to start when the CGC pool reopens in October 2025.

Is artistic swimming welcoming of all genders?

Absolutely!

What ages can participate?

Currently our classes are open to children and youth ages 8 through 18.

If you are interested in adult classes, please let us know!

Are there prerequisites to joining?

Artistic swimming is quite physically demanding and includes many specialized skills. Beginner artistic swimmers therefore need to be confident swimmers for the benefit of both the coaches and the students.

Participants must be able to pass the deep end swim test (independently swimming 2 lengths of the pool with somersault dive). This swim test will be conducted at the start of the first class. In addition, swimmers should be comfortable in the water and have basic swimming skills, including swimming underwater, treading water, and be comfortable swimming in deep water.

To progress from beginner to higher level classes one must demonstrate the skills needed to advance, as evaluated by the coaches.

Do you do shows?

For sure! Every session ends with a short show for the artistic swimmers to work towards, and to show their family and friends their skills and artistry. They are a highlight for all!

Can I be involved?

Yes! We are always looking for enthusiastic volunteers, coaches, supporters and board members. If you have ideas, time, interest, and passion we would love to hear from you!
